The guest panel was a treat (and tweet) for us.

The students offered excellent advice and shared their own stories to help you see how they have created opportunities. I invited panelists who could offer a range of advice on getting published, finding internships, and getting involved in college and campus activities.

#JOU3109 trendingThey recommended several ways to find internships, including checking the email sent by the college’s Knight Division and participating in the college’s Interviewing Day.

I enjoyed hearing how each panelist has pursued a number of opportunities — from being in the University Scholars Program to starting Unity PR to participating in Student Government and Cicerones.

If you want to know more about the panel’s advice, just check out #JOU3109 on Twitter.

At the beginning of class, I asked everyone to practice live tweeting by sending at least two tweets during the panel presentation, using the #JOU3109 hashtag.

Alligator story - #JOU3109 trendingYou did a great job with your tweets, capturing the key ideas from the panel and even including some photos.

Our tweeting was so successful that #JOU3109 was trending in the United States during the panel! Thanks to Ali Schmitz (@Alioschmitz) for recognizing that we were trending and taking a screen capture of our national moment.

After I saw Ali’s tweet, I contacted panelist Kathryn Varn to let her know that #JOU3109 trending could be a story idea.

Alex Harris called to interview me for the story, story was published  in The Alligator, Feb. 28 and online. [That’s an example of starting a story at 8 p.m. and having it go online about 1 a.m.]
